Police
Rafiki
This booklet
is a simple guide to help clarify
the roles and relationships between
the police force and citizens. Many
people seem to have misunderstood
this important relationship. Normally,
children grow up fearing the police.
Many think that the police need to
be “tough,” even unfriendly
towards people, in order to carry
out their duties effectively.
The purpose of
this booklet is to correct the misconceptions
and create a positive image about
policemen and women, among the general
public, particularly children and
youth. People need to have an appreciation
of the work that the police do for
the community and see that they can
be helpful and friendly.
It is important
for the whole community to work together
to create this awareness. Promoting
peace and harmony is a key responsibility
of the Police Force. On the other
hand, it is not enough for citizens
to merely follow rules and regulations.
They also need to collaborate actively
with the police to achieve these ends.
Each one of us - children, youth,
adults and the police – needs
to take this responsibility very seriously.
